Rocky Raccoon 100 Miles at Huntsville, Texas

Like so often in Europe, the most runners met the evening before. At the small cottage at the Huntsville State Park lake, there was a delicious meal at 6pm. There was salad, pasta and some pies for dessert. After this the runners could start strengthened at the next morning.

At Saturday morning 6am 148 runners started for the 5x20 Miles loop. One hour later 58 for the 50-Miles. The 50-Miles ran the same course as the 100-Miles without a small back part.

The course was on small wood and wander trails. Course of the rain, the days before the race, there was some lightly muddy parts. The wavy course around the lake was almost without any traffic. There was only three times street crossings. But with 28-55F there are not many people willing to have a barbecue, so that this streets of the park wasn't used much. At the evening there was coming up a small breeze of wind. Which made it much more cold.

Gary Moroney won the 50-Miles with 7:00:09, followed by David Washatka, 7:11:18, and Kyle Gulseth, 7:11:42. The first woman, Jacqueline O Brien-Nolen, finished after 8:55:23. At the 100-Miles I won with 16:02:10. Second was Paul Frost, 16:12:15 and third Kirk Anderson, 16:55:32. First woman was Julie Fingar after 17:37:22. At all 148 finished the 100-Miles and 56 the 50-Miles.

There was although a breakfast before the award ceremony on Sunday morning. There was dished up scrambled eggs, taccos and pancakes. So another nice and peaceful week ended. For more information visit the organizers homepage.
