50km German Championship HaWei50 in Ubstadt-Weiher, Germany

Finally, after 16 monthes another race. On Saturday morning Florian, Marko and I went to Ubstastadt-Weiher. It was similar to 2023 another German championship. It was not on the 6hours, but on the 50km. In compare to Berlin it was only a two hour drive to Ubstadt-Weiher. That is why it was enough to drive there on Saturday morning. At 6:30 we met up in Würzburg at the Dallenbergbad to drove together. Just past 8am we arrived at the Parkingslots in Weiher. Next to the camping ressourt some tents where build up. Here we could get our start numbers as well as some coffee and cake. All was located quiet close together, so there are no long ways in between. After we picked up our start bibs, we went to enjoy a coffee till the start of the race.

In time at 10am we had the start. Around 750 people started for the 50km German Championship. Already before we heared, that there where many strong startes. Luckly the field streghted apart quiet quickly. After one kilometer we had a short back and forward part. So it was quiet easy to get an overview of the field of runners. Then we continued the 5k loop around the lake. Without a short part next to a big road, the course was quiet and without wind influence. Florian, Marko and I started again together. When we arrived at the back and forward part, the leading group had passed already for a long time. They started very fast, so that the already passed us during our third loop. After the leading group started slowly to break apart. Also our group started to split up after the fourth loop. Marko had to go to the bushes and at the end of the fifth loop I had to let Florian keep going alone. After the seventh loop I had to slow down and shortly after Marko caught up. But I let him pass and continue alone. While Marko and Florian managed to run just below four hours, I had only a 4:23. But we already know in advance, that we would not have any chance with our team. So we counted it more as a good training run.

At least we where lucky to have good weather. It was not as sunny and warm as broadcasted, but most of the time we could run with T-Shirt and short running trouthers. It was the fist time for this year. We did not stay long, after we had finished. There where only a few showers and we did not want to wait too long. So we just changed, had a quick coffee and drove home.
