Today we had again about 600m altitudes to do. Most of them were during the first 30km. Then we had reached the highest point of the day. After we did a little downhill it was just flat till the end. After 13 kilometres we went trough Peach Springs. A bit later there was the Caverns Gas Station and the Motel. There was also a big souvenir shop. In front of it there are plenty of old cars and fire trucks. I decided to go into the shop and get an ice cream. When I had a look to a map inside the shop I saw, that Peach Springs was at the south corner of the Grand Canyon. We just had passed the city. Since I saw the sign at the road yesterday I was thinking about going there. Today at the evening I would like to check at the internet. Having the ice cream in my hand I went further uphill. On our left side there was a hill chain. Behind that was the Grand Canyon. As further we went as more the landscape changed into meadows. Also the mentality of the people changed. More and more people hook the horn to us to applaud and waved their hands. Cars stopped while I was having some support at my car. It was a surprise they asked if we are ok or we need help. It was a very nice gesture, especially if you think about the fearful way of the Americans. At the finishing line the motel owner was sitting next to Laure. It showed up, that he also was from Germany. During a small talk he told me, that our stage finish Seligman was the beginning of Route 66. Today there was nothing to see about that. Because of the Highway the Route 66 was not important anymore. In the past it was the most important route between the east and the west. Because of the highways the cities besides Route 66 died out. An effect we also know quiet well. Nowadays most of the cities live from tourism and souvenir shops. At the evening we went to the restaurant which we were told by our compatriot. It was a nice atmosphere. Sadly there was not a lot of time, because we had to get to bed early. Also it was the first day since days we had internet again.
