Yesterday and today should be the hottest stages of the race. When we went back to Amboy in the morning it was still cool. Also during the day it seemed not as hot as two days ago. Maybe I get used to the heat. Also I used much more ice to cool me down during running.

When we arrived at the gas station it seemed like a jungle. There where only a few trees, but a lot of bird voice. The first 16 kilometers we had to go uphill. Not much but still. After that we can run down till the finish. After about 40 kilometers we left Route 66. We had run on it for a long time already. We went on Route 95. It leaded us directly to the Highway. Did I write it is also here forbidden to run on the Highway just a few days before? Well yes, but the exception proves the rule. There was no other street to get to Needles. So we had the permission to run about 10 kilometers on the highway. When Peter arrived at this point he had to wait. A lorry had a crash and the cleaning up was still going on. Just before I have arrived there, Peter got a green light and was allowed to continue. There were not many options to support during the Highway. So people had to meet before the Highway, at the emergency stop and after the Highway. Otherwise people will run “hot” at the high temperatures. When we went on the Highway there was a beautiful few into the valley. Between the hills and us there was a green band. At the first moment you will not trust your eyes. The mystery was the Colorado River. He wiggled trough the valley. On both sides there was green area. Maybe this was the reason we saw so many cars with a boot.

When I arrived Peter waited for me. We both got a cool drink. We also used that time to talk to Laure about news. It showed up that Italo had again no support. When we had talked to him at Huntington Beach he told us the Japanese will support him. Now we figured out that he only ask for a three day support. So we had to talk to him again. Hopefully now everything will be fine. The first week was done. It went over fast, but it is still a long way till we finally arrive in New York. Markus had a very bad day today. He came in last after 14.5 hours. Laure was joining him for the last 15 kilometers.
